The Young Women’s Advisory Council (YWAC) learned about the role of women’s philanthropy in social justice movements in March with our guest speakers, Katie Allen Zobel and Deborah Koch.

March marked our 14th YWAC session centered around women’s philanthropy and grantmaking initiatives created by and for young women in western Massachusetts.

The young women discussed the importance of donating funds for community impact. To address the need for more millennials and generation x young women to enter the philanthropic space, we partnered with the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts to match their donations so their grants could have more impact.

In addition to practicing philanthropy, the YWAC learned what it’s like to be a grantmaker and also grantwriter from Katie Allen Zobel and Deborah Koch. They will use these tools when they create a Request for Proposals (RFP) that will be published in April. The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts awarded a regranting pool for the YWAC to disperse amongst community partners with the intention of addressing women in leadership, rape culture, mental health and wellness and economic, community, workforce development.

Return back next month to see their final projects.
