Voices From Inside (VFI) is a volunteer-led non-profit organization serving Hampshire, Hampden, and Franklin counties. VFI’s mission is to work with women who are currently or formerly incarcerated, are in recovery, and/or have contended with mental health needs to promote personal empowerment and positive community engagement.
We coordinate creative writing workshops within local jails, recovery centers, and social service agencies to reach the women we aim to connect with. These workshops are a tool for empowerment, and public readings showcasing our participants’ writing serve as a point of intervention in harmful narratives and stigmas around incarceration and recovery. VFI also strives to provide leadership skills and opportunities, mutual aid, and a supportive community of similarly located women.
