LIPPI & YWI Graduation
June 4 at 5:30 pm - 7:30 pmFree
This year our Leadership Institute for Political and Public Impact (LIPPI) and Young Women’s Initiative (YWI) programs will have a joint graduation ceremony! Graduates from both programs will have completed 9-months of classes that provide them with the tools, training, and confidence they need to become our region’s community leaders and elected officials. The event is free and open to the public and will take place at the Fuller Arts Center at Springfield College from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
The keynote speaker will be Yemisi Oloruntola-Coates, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Baystate Health. A musical performance from vocalist Alanna Alston, a student at Central High School in Springfield, will open the ceremony.
The Leadership Institute for Political and Public Impact, a core program of the Women’s Fund of Western Massachusetts, graduated the first cohort in 2010. Since that time, over 280 women from Western Massachusetts have gone through the program and gone on to run for political office, been appointed to boards, and taken leadership positions in their communities.
The Young Women’s Initiative is part of the National Philanthropic Collaborative of Young Women’s Initiatives. The Women’s Fund’s YWI program is one of eight in the country and this year’s graduates will be the second cohort to complete the program. The YWI program works with young women and girls in Springfield to address inequality challenges they are facing and guide them in making proposals for change.
During the graduation ceremony, the women graduating from LIPPI will give a statement of advice about leadership to the YWI graduates. The YWI graduates will be presenting their recommendations for three issues they have focused on for the last several months: dress codes, practical education, and mental health.
Doors open at 5 PM. The graduation ceremony begins promptly at 5:30 PM. Light refreshments will be served after the program.
